Three things to know before you buy

    Plan a level base. A gravel pad, slab or deck blocks sized 12′1″ × 10′1¼″ — the foundation is not part of the kit.
  • 2
    The roof boards come with it; the roofing layer does not. The 1:12 slope needs a membrane, rolled or metal roof — shingles are not allowed below 2:12.*
  • 3
    Protect the wood in the first weeks. The spruce arrives sanded, kiln-dried and untreated — stain or paint it soon after the build, in the color you pick.

The functional side windows can be interchangeably installed towards the front or back of the shed, giving furniture placement and lighting flexibility. With just under 120 sq ft of floor area, this shed kit offers enough room for your hobbies, home office, or even a queen-size bedroom.

  • The shed comes with complete windows and doors, roof boards, T&G floor, and all hardware.
  • Assembly may take 8-20 hours, depending on your skill level, but you only need a few basic tools to assemble this beautiful garden shed.

    • Your new shed will have to be stained or painted to protect it from the elements. You may choose traditional products at your local hardware store, or explore some greener options.

    This shed requires roofing - any flat roof systems, metal roofing, rolled roofing, or PVC roofing are great options. Shingles are not suitable for a structure with a low slope flat roof.

    Would Do It Again

    “Wow!!!! Exceptional company and product. Ordered and was delivered in 1 week! That’s not a typo…. Hardest part was prep work before hand. Kit arrived beautifully packaged. Would recommend you have a few friends handy for unloading pallet. I’m a 63 year old woman and after the joists and subflooring (subflooring not included) were down it almost build itself. Being a 63 year old woman I packed each piece out to poolside and in 4.5 hours had it assemble to over windows and doors single handed. Husband helped put in windows and door frame..and we completed the gable and roofing together on day 2. If you were starting from a new concrete pad this could have been up in a day. The Norwegian spruce is fragrant and absolutely love the finish on interior and exterior. Would definitely buy from Solid Build again! We had a mini split installed and it will let me use this “Studio” in Arizona year round. Love it!”

    We absolutely LOVE our shed!

    “We are extremely happy with our California shed. It was easy to put together and the instructions were 98% correct and easy to follow. Where instructions were lacking, common sense and logic saved the day. One small wall piece was missing but we had an extra long piece so it was easy to cut one to size. We live in California and the earth moves a lot, so we built our own gravel foundation for the shed as extra earthquake protection. We also added a thick rubber roof and painted it, and it survived the winter rain without a leak or crack. We are impressed with how sturdy the shed is. We were both moving about a lot on the roof when we added the rubber roofing, and it did not budge. Inside, the wood is beautiful and light and smells wonderfully. We love the light that comes through the French doors and the four tall windows and are glad that we chose this particular configuration (the California shed). We were going to use this shed for storage but love it so much that we instead are going to use it for reading and taking coffee breaks from gardening.”

    Best backyard shed ever

    “Although this was one of the least expensive options I considered for a backyard studio, I really feel it was the best choice. I love the design of my California modern shed. The cute little scallop details are awesome. And it came standard with a lot of things that were $$$ add-ons at other companies, like windows that open and double French doors. I also love that it’s non-toxic and eco-friendly. It took a bit of work to get it installed (foundation, roof, paint) and you have to be aware that it’s a living structure and sort of moves a bit over time. But it’s so nice sitting inside and looking out through the double doors into my yard, while my dog guards my privacy lol. I’m glad I chose this company.”

    Yes — free curbside freight to the lower 48 states. The kit ships flat-packed on one pallet of about 2,260 lbs, and the dispatcher calls first to agree a delivery window; the delivery line above the price is the current estimate. The pallet is too big for a liftgate, so it comes off by hand, board by board — plan on two people for about an hour. Driver-assisted unloading and expedited delivery can be added for a fee; ask us for a quote when you order.
    At 117 sq ft this model sits under the 120 sq ft threshold most US counties use, so a permit usually isn't required. Rules vary by county and HOA, so one call to your local building department settles it. The blueprint that comes with the kit is ready to hand them if they ask for plans.
    A level, well-drained base sized 12′1″ × 10′1¼″, flat within ¼″. A compacted gravel pad, deck blocks or a timber frame all work; a concrete slab is the premium route, not a requirement. Most owners build it in an afternoon for $250–$700. The foundation calculator gives the shopping list and cut list.
    The 1:12 slope needs a membrane, rolled or metal roof — shingles are not allowed below 2:12. Budget $330–920 for 166 sq ft of roof area. The roof boards themselves are in the kit.     Most owners finish in 2 days with basic tools — hammer, drill, level, ladder. The wall boards interlock tongue-and-groove, so no framing skills are needed. The manual, the blueprint and the video library come with the kit, and the support line answers mid-build questions.
    Yes, within the factory-verified layouts. Wall panels can be assembled flipped and the left and right walls mirrored, so the included windows and door can sit at either end of their wall — you choose during assembly, at no cost. The side windows can face the front or the back of the side walls. The included windows never move to the back wall, and the factory does not open the pallet or swap boards — every layout uses the same kit. The layouts are pictured on the California model page.
    Yes — the California model page has the paint studio (a 3D model you can stain or paint on screen), a true-size AR preview for your phone, the layout options and the size drawings. It is the same kit.
