Three things to know before you buy

  • 1
You'll need a level base. Gravel, slab or deck blocks — sized 12′1″ × 10′1¼″. Not included.
  • 2
Roof boards are included; the top layer isn't. The 1:12 slope needs a membrane, rolled or metal roof — shingles are not allowed below 2:12.*
  • 3
It arrives as sanded, kiln-dried, untreated spruce. Bare wood has no weather protection, so stain or paint it within the first few weeks — you pick the color. See our Paint and Stain Guide.

* Buy roll roofing or clear panels whose sheet says 1:12, and seal every lap on screw-down metal. See our roofing guide.

In the box — and not

One pallet. Almost everything.

Every wood part is pre-cut to size. Three things are deliberately left to you, because climate and taste vary too much to ship one answer.

Included in the kit

  • Double tongue-&-groove wall panelsSustainably harvested Norway spruce, untreated
  • Roof boards, floor kit & joistsT&G spruce floor on pressure-treated joists
  • French double door, lock & keys4′8″ × 6′5″ dual-pane glass

You'll add — and roughly what it costs

  • Foundation DIY $250–700 · pro slab $1,200–2,500Level, well-drained, 12′1″ × 10′1¼″. Built before the pallet arrives — size it in the foundation calculator.
  • Roofing material $300–920The 1:12 slope needs a membrane, rolled or metal roof — shingles are not allowed below 2:12.*
  • Stain or paint $100–3001–2 gallons outside, about a gallon inside, and a quart for trims and floors. Try the colors on the 3D model before you buy a can. Which finish for your climate: Paint and Stain Guide.

* Buy roll roofing or clear panels whose sheet says 1:12, and seal every lap on screw-down metal. See our roofing guide.

Typical owner-built total: the kit price plus foundation, roofing and stain. Hiring out the base and the build adds roughly $2,700–$5,500.

From our warehouse to your curb

Your shed, step by step.

Step 1

Order — on your schedule

Order now, receive it later: tell us when you want delivery and we'll hold the kit until then. Free shipping to the lower 48.

Step 2

Arrives in 1–3 weeks

One flat-packed pallet, about 2,260 lbs, every board pre-cut to size.

Step 3

Curbside delivery

The carrier will arrange a delivery window with you. The pallet is too large for a liftgate, so for standard delivery, plan to have two people available to unload it by hand. It usually takes about an hour. Driver-assisted unloading and expedited delivery are available for an additional fee.

Step 4

Build it — 2 days

Check the pallet against the packing list in the first 30 days — anything damaged or missing ships free. Boards interlock tongue-and-groove; no framing skills needed. Manual, blueprint and video library included.

Tight street, steep drive, or an island address? Get in touch before ordering — we'll check the route with the carrier so there are no surprises on the day.

I am a custom home builder

“I am a custom home builder. The shed went together flawlessly. A close friend and cabinet maker recommended Solid Build to me after buying one for his wife to use as her office. Loved the creativity in the engineering of how all the parts fit interlocking together. Anyone can assemble these. No cutting necessary. Well thought out. I highly recommend this product. Love and highly recommend this shed. Well made, solid wood, beautiful. Also so easy to install. ”

“I purchased the California model for my backyard in San Mateo and I’m absolutely thrilled with it. It’s beautiful, was easy for my handyman to build, and smells fantastic with beautiful wood. We had a couple of questions and the customer service was fantastic, very quick to answer and helpful and friendly. I wholeheartedly recommend this company if you want a beautiful solid wood shed! Absolutely beautiful when built, we use it for a combination gym and she-shed. I do Pilates in it every week and love it so much!”

Common questions

Frequently asked questions.

At 117 sq ft, the California shed may not require a building permit in some locations, but requirements vary. Check with your local building department before you build. Every kit includes a blueprint you can provide if requested.
A level, well-drained base sized 12′1″ × 10′1¼″, flat within ¼″. A compacted gravel pad, deck blocks or a lumber frame all work; a concrete slab is the premium route but is not required. A simple DIY base usually takes an afternoon and costs around $250–$700 in materials. The foundation calculator gives you the shopping list and cut list.
The 1:12 slope needs a membrane, rolled or metal roof — shingles are not allowed below 2:12. Budget $300–920 for 166 sq ft of roof area. Roof boards themselves are included in the kit. Buy roll roofing or clear panels whose sheet says 1:12, and seal every lap on screw-down metal. See our roofing guide.
Plan on about 2 days with basic tools — hammer, drill, level, ladder. The wall boards interlock tongue-and-groove, so no framing skills are needed. Manual, blueprint and video library are included, and our support line answers mid-build questions. A local handyman or an assembler would be one to hire.
Yes. The roof can be insulated above the tongue-and-groove boards, under the roofing layer, and the floor between the joists. The solid-wood walls are designed to expand and contract naturally, so they shouldn't be insulated like conventional framed walls. Depending on your climate, add a heater or mini-split for year-round use.
Yes. Power and lighting can be added using surface-mounted conduit, keeping the solid-wood walls intact and the wiring accessible. Plan the electrical route before the build, and use a licensed electrician for the installation. Electrical permit requirements vary by location, so check with your local building department.
Free curbside freight to the lower 48. One flat-packed pallet of about 2,260 lbs arrives 1–3 weeks after ordering. The carrier will arrange a delivery window with you. The pallet is too large for a liftgate, so for standard delivery, plan to have two people available to unload it by hand. It usually takes about an hour. Driver-assisted unloading and expedited delivery are available for an additional fee.
Yes, within the factory-verified layouts. Wall panels can be assembled flipped and the left and right walls mirrored, so the included windows and door can sit at either end of their wall — you choose during assembly, at no cost. The side windows can face the front or the back of the side walls. The included windows never move to the back wall, and the factory does not open the pallet or swap boards — every layout uses the same kit.
Let us know within 30 days of delivery and we'll take care of it. Missing or damaged parts are replaced free of charge. Reach out or call 1-800-590-2508 ext. 1 and we'll help get it sorted. The 1-year limited warranty covers manufacturing and workmanship defects.
